Youth Sports Visit

French youngsters as guests of Lutterworth Cricket Club where they had
an enjoyable introduction to the mysteries of the game.

Lutterworth's twinning with the town of Chambourcy in France took a step forward last week when it hosted a party of French school children for a week of sport in Lutterworth. The party of twenty four youngsters, boys and girls aged 11 to 13 together with the seven adults accompanying them was based at Lutterworth Rugby Club with the children being hosted by local families with children of similar age.

During the week the party was taught Rugby, played tennis on grass for the first time, swam with the Swimming club and played Badminton at the Sports Centre. They also played rounders and softball at the High School and Hockey at the Grammar School. The Cricket Club showed them how to play cricket and they played golf at Lutterworth Golf Club.

Martin Willey, chairman of the Twinning Association said -

"The Twinning Association has been keen to involve more young people and this visit is an important development in our activities. We wanted to build on the success of the youth football exchanges and involve other sports. Lutterworth has really done our French visitors proud. We were delighted with the way that the host families have supported the project and we hope that they will want to continue their involvement. We are very grateful to the local sports clubs and schools who have been so generous with their time and resources. I know that the visitors really appreciate what has been done and are keen to invite a party from Lutterworth to Chambourcy for a similar event next year."

On the weekend of 17th September, the Association will be hosting a party of adults from Chambourcy and this time the party will include some golfers and tennis and badminton players. Martin Willey on 01455 554802 would be please to hear from anyone who would like to become involved in the Association, possibly by hosting visitors for the weekend in September.
